IT IN TRANSITION: FACILITATING CHANGE BY EMBRACING FUNDAMENTALS

Richard Scott, VP and CTO, GUARDIAN LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY OF AMERICA

Today we stand on the threshold of an era that will fundamentally change the landscape of IT as we know it.  The convergence of Moore's law (transistor density doubles every 2 years) with Edholm's Law of Bandwidth (data rates double every 1.9 years) is poised to forever alter the way IT delivers technology services and solutions. Utility based computing, a.k.a. "the cloud," growing mobile workforces and social computing are real, and forcing us to rethink how, as IT professionals, we offer the best value to our respective businesses.  As we move forward into this new reality, we must find a way to balance these forces with core IT business disciplines, including expense management, strong governance, and minimizing complexity in IT.
