CASE STUDY: CLOUD-BASED MDM AS CATALYST FOR FILLING DATA GOVERNANCE GAPS

H. Pete Anderson, Managing Data Steward, ELI LILLY & COMPANY
Majid Izadian, ZENDEUX BUSINESS DATA SOLUTIONS
John Flaxman, ZENDEUX BUSINESS DATA SOLUTIONS

Many Data Governance organizations may find that migration from an on-premise to a Cloud-based MDM solution may provide the much needed catalyst to finally tackle those thorny governance problems the organization previously couldn’t find business support to address.  When Eli Lilly and Company decided to become an early adopter of Veeva Network’s Customer Master Cloud-based MDM solution, it quickly discovered that the existing on premise solution had allowed several fundamental Data Governance issues to persist.  Example issues included inconsistent definitions of a customer and confusion between transactional and master data that allowed the existing customer master to deteriorate into a data swamp where even the most experienced customer data stewards feared to tread. By implementing a Cloud-based MDM solution governed and stewarded by a third party, Lilly is finally on a path to harmonized definition and visibility of customers.  This session will provide experience-based insights into topics such as:

  • Justifying the migration costs & business value from on-premise migration to Cloud-based MDM
  • Determining & solving privacy & security issues of Cloud-based customer data
  • Planning for synchronization & integration requirements – both present & future
