KEYNOTE SESSION 3- EXPANDING THE MULTI-DOMAIN MDM PROGRAM

Kyle B. Smith, Director, Clinical Data Integration, SUTTER HEALTH
Ben Rund, Sr. Director Product Marketing, Information Quality Solutions, INFORMATICA TECHNOLOGIES

Healthcare providers are going through a time of radical change. The business of providing care to patients is being transformed by changes in federal and state law, creation of Accountable Care Organizations, changes in insurance programs, and the growth of Health Information Exchanges.

Sutter Health, a leading healthcare organization in Northern California, saw its business and technical leadership come together to support MDM as a mission critical, strategic initiative for its hospitals, clinics and physician offices. The focus on development of a single-instance, multi-domain MDM implementation has been accompanied by adoption of data quality metrics and Reference Data standards. The MDM team has been successful in applying business rules to Master Data to describe relationships between data entities and to generate golden records. This case study describes the primary success drivers behind Sutter Health’s large and growing MDM initiative, including:

  • Using the multi-domain MDM strategy to enhance the value of data as a business asset
  • Achieving data standardization as a multi-domain MDM objective
  • Establishing a productive relationship between Data Governance & MDM initiatives
