CASE STUDY: EVOLVING, DEPLOYING & GOVERNING REFERENCE DATA TO SUPPORT THE AGILE ENTERPRISE

Heather Rock, Sr. Finance Manager, NETAPP
Luda Shuster, Senior MDM Analyst, NETAPP
Raj Thevar, DRM Solution Architect, NETAPP

NetApp is a Fortune 500 global provider of software, systems and services that helps enterprises manage and store data.  As part of the company’s business applications ecosystem, NetApp has a “mature” MDM implementation which includes Company Master and Reference Master using Oracle Customer MDM and DRM.  NetApp rolled out its initial DRM implementation in 2008 and has since used it to power the company’s Reference Data Master resulting in functional coverage increasing threefold. Currently, DRM-managed master data supports the Finance, Product Operations and Sales Operations (customer master) organizations. It is integrated with 17 business applications and serves more than 300 users. As a large evolving enterprise, NetApp’s business objectives and processes, data architecture and integration points necessarily vary between the different functional domains (Finance, Product and Customer).

This session will present both business and IT perspectives on how to evolve reference data management (RDM) programs and share success factors for its continuous operation. Attendees will hear about the successful deployment of Oracle DRM across three vital business functional areas:

  • Rolling out Data Governance for the Finance department
  • Augmenting the Customer master data via reference data
  • Instantiating interim Product mastering processes
