WORKSHOP 4: MDM AND DATA GOVERNANCE FOR BIG DATA, CLOUD AND SOCIAL MEDIA

The rapidly emerging new paradigms in Big Data, Cloud and Social Media present both opportunities and challenges to MDM and Data Governance. Traditional approaches to MDM and Data Governance may not always be able to meet these opportunities and challenges, and new techniques are required. This tutorial examines the special characteristics of Big Data, Cloud and Social Media, and how these relate to MDM and Data Governance. Their importance for new business models is particularly emphasized, since so many of these models now see data at their core. With respect to MDM, legal entities and individuals are taken as typical master data entities, and these lead to particular governance concerns around data privacy and usage. However, additional Data Governance challenges are also explored, particularly with respect to tracking data within Big Data environments, ensuring Cloud computing is used effectively, and dealing with MDM crowdsourcing via Social Media. Attendees will learn:

  • Understanding the opportunities and challenges for MDM and Data Governance in Big Data, Cloud and Social Media
  • Leveraging detailed capabilities/techniques that are important for Big Data, Cloud and Social Media
  • Identifying how MDM and Data Governance assist in ensuring the success of data-centric business models
