9:55 a.m. - 10:40 a.m.

Carl Gerber, Head of Data Transformation Program, TIAA-CREF
Dr. Arka Mukherjee, CEO & Founder, GLOBAL IDS

Organizations with large and complex data landscapes often lack transparency into their data ecosystem. Burdened with opaque data, organizations find it hard to support governance, risk and compliance (GRC) initiatives. This presentation describes an approach for creating transparency in complex data landscapes (including big data) to solve problems related to GRC. Using software automation to discover, profile and organize the data ecosystem, enterprise-level GRC initiatives can be dramatically accelerated to provide reduced time-to-value of both MDM and Data Governance programs. This session will cover the following topics:

  • Establishing the prerequisites for implementing data-centric GRC projects
  • Identifying the steps required to organize enterprise data landscapes
  • Leveraging ROI and lessons learned from a financial services industry use case

The case study highlights TIAA-CREF’s Journey to Improved Data Quality. TIAA-CREF defined a blueprint for data management transformational change leading to business outcomes and operational efficiencies in regulatory compliance. Their program focuses on maturing Data Governance and Stewardship, developing a Playbook and Enterprise Data Services including Metadata, Data Profiling and a Data Quality Dashboard.
