KEYNOTE: STRATEGY AND IMPLEMENTATION DURING ORGANIZATIONAL TRANSITION

David Kurdyla, Chief Information Officer, ONTARIO LOTTERY AND GAMING CORPORATION
Krasen Paskalev, VP and Practice Lead, Data Governance, Data Quality and Master Data Management, ADASTRA CORP.

One of the pillars of successful Data Governance is a streamlined organizational structure that is aligned to the enterprise’s long-term strategy. Pre-existing structures, multiple stakeholders, and departmental politics are some of the main challenges faced in implementing such governance. Battles can easily flare up when information ownership and stewardship is shifted within existing business units and processes, particularly around master data domains and the ultimate establishment of competency centers that must be empowered to make binding decisions on the development and enforcement of policies, practices, and standards. When an organization is already undergoing significant changes due to expansion, a merger/acquisition, or simply competitive reorganization, Data Governance requires even greater adaptability. This presentation will show how the Ontario organization successfully designed and executed their Data Governance program by discussing topics such as:

  • Establishing an effective master data governance program in the midst of profound business transformation via proven organizational principles and flexible design
  • Applying an adaptable implementation approach to align shifting processes and practices to strategic goals
  • Future-proofing Data-Governance-as-a-service processes around master data domains and competency centers
