CASE STUDY: PIM IN MANUFACTURING, RETAIL, HIGH-TECH AND HEALTHCARE

Joseph Raj, Director, MDMHUBS

Clearly, regardless of whether your company is B2B or B2C, increased supply chain agility, visibility and collaboration requires coordination of master data (and processes) for supplier and product. Moreover, product information management (PIM) further needs to address not only traditional business processes but also increasingly provide support for omni-channel commerce, etc. while providing integration points with “party” data (customers, citizens, employees). These multiple scenarios of customer-facing and supplier-facing processes have the traditional MDM challenges such as: business justification (soft and hard ROI), architecture (cloud or on-site PIM), integration (separate PIM data hub or Integrated with ERP/CRM), and Data Governance. Additionally, certain PIM-specific challenges need to be addressed which are the focus of this session and its multiple case studies. Topics will focus on detailing case studies implemented recently each from Manufacturing, Retail, High-Tech and Healthcare along with the subtle differentiations that need to be accounted for each industry:

  • Understanding the importance/relevance of pre-packaged/extensible PIM
  • Resolving key Data Quality challenges—including preparation for PIM integration, profiling, standardization and merging
  • Discerning the importance of key PIM features such as best practices and automated rules for intelligent/non-intelligent item number, description, additional attributes, change management and GDSN syndication considerations.
