Malcolm Chisholm, President, ASKGET.COM

The explosion of Big Data, particularly in the context of Cloud Computing and Social Media, has created a set of new challenges for MDM. Rather than focusing on careful stewardship of master data, and distribution from central hubs of golden records, Big Data requires distilling information about master data entities from a raw input, in the same way that an oil refinery distills valuable products from crude petroleum. It is no exaggeration to say that the whole paradigm of Big Data revolves around successful MDM. While Big Data is relatively new, certain areas, such as national defense, intelligence and financial services, have actually been dealing with it for a number of years. This tutorial examines how Master Data Governance needs to be brought to bear on Big Data to realize the value from it. Attendees will learn:

  • Planning for the intersection of Big Data, Social Media, and Cloud databases most relevant to master data
  • Declinating the use cases, scope and related common drivers for master data and Big Data
  • Provisioning the basic governance tasks, architecture and ontology for Master Data Governance for Big Data
