BEST PRACTICES: REFERENCE ARCHITECTURE FOR DATA GOVERNANCE WITH A DASH OF BIG DATA

Sunil Soares, Founder & Managing Partner, INFORMATION ASSET LLC.

Successful Data Governance programs need a strong alignment with people and process. It is currently fashionable to dismiss software tools; and vendors often further confuse matters by slapping the term “Data Governance” on all their offerings. However, software tools have matured sufficiently that it is inconceivable that a mature Data Governance program would not use any tools at all. Clearly, it can be hard to define what exactly constitutes “Data Governance software” and the definition tends to meld into the broader category of data management software. In this industry thought leadership session, topics will include:

  • Rationalizing the key components of a Data Governance reference architecture-- including metadata, information policy management, data discovery, DQ, MDM, reference data management (RDM) and information lifecycle management (ILM)
  • Preparing to leverage the impact of Big Data technologies-- Hadoop, NoSQL, Complex Event Processing and text analytics on Data Governance
  • Orienteering the interplay between Data Governance and broader data management technologies-- e.g., data discovery technologies to discover hidden sensitive data
