CASE STUDY: APPLYING MDM TO DRIVE A VALUE-BASED CARE EMPI MODEL

Thomas F. Janssen, Manager, Business Intelligence & Enterprise Data Warehousing, MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM

Memorial Health System (MHS) is a 125 year old community-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to patient care, education and research. MHS is currently one of the leading healthcare organizations in Illinois, with nearly 6,000 staff members and partnering physicians providing care to more than 600,000 inpatients, outpatients and emergency/express care patients. Today’s healthcare organizations face tremendous pressure from both government regulators and competitors. Recently, MHS embarked upon its MDM journey when it decided to achieve meaningful use, compliance, and performance objectives through a single view of the patient. The first critical objective was to create a single, consistent, accurate view of each patient across MHS to achieve meaningful use guidelines and ensure participation in the Federally-mandated regional Health Information Exchange. This session will highlight best practices applicable to all organizations engaged in creating single view of the party (patient/customer/citizen) by discussing topics such as:

  • Planning for data and process integration among data warehouse, ERP and MDM to provide advanced reporting and analysis of KPI metrics
  • Leveraging pre-packaged industry data models to overcome challenges associated with fragmented systems by integrating and enriching all activity across all applications at the patient and event levels
  • Accelerating time to value by leveraging off-the-shelf capabilities to unify and enhance all master data, while transforming that data into metrics to improve performance
