BEST PRACTICES: FINDING, EVALUATING AND OUTSOURCING REFERENCE DATA CONTENT FOR MDM

Scott Taylor, Managing Director, INFOCOMMERCE GROUP

Stop doing someone else's work! Reference data is core to MDM yet managing and maintaining such content can be a thankless endeavor, hardly ever aligned to your company strategy. Outsourcing reference data content, however, can provide tremendous benefits to an enterprise. Along with the classic sources (Acxiom, D&B, Harte-Hanks, et al), there are now innovative (and disruptive) approaches to populating your reference data files (e.g., crowdsourcing). Clean, coded, and well-governed sources abound, yet many are hidden in plain sight. As the number of trusted commercial data sources increase, so do the opportunities to leverage and convert your existing data and research vendors into reference data suppliers. In this session, you will learn from best practice examples of reference data outsourcing through such topics as:

  • Understanding the ten value vectors used to evaluate potential reference data suppliers
  • Identifying ways to increase the value of syndicated data sources
  • Planning for and leveraging the next generation of “data marketplaces”—cloud, crowdsourcing, etc.
