IIS 1: ACHIEVING BUSINESS VALUE THROUGH MDM

Mary Galvin, Systems Engineer, LEXISNEXIS

Sponsored by:
Lexis Nexis

Large-scale entity extraction, disambiguation and linkage in Big Data can challenge the traditional methodologies developed over the last three decades. Entity linkage, in particular, is cornerstone for a wide spectrum of applications, such as MDM, Data Warehousing, Social Graph Analytics, Fraud Detection and Identity Management. This is vital as traditional rules-based heuristic methods usually don't scale properly, are language specific and require significant maintenance over time. This lunch presentation will introduce the audience to strategies for entity resolution to reveal hidden connections by demystifying topics such as:

  • Understanding the use cases and derived business values for rules-based (deterministic) vs. statistics-based (probabilistic) entity resolution
  • Coping with incomplete and semi-structured data
  • Applying probabilistic record linkage—a.k.a. specificity-based linkage—on Big Data to perform entity extraction, resolution and linkage across diverse sources
