Martha Dember, Consulting Manager—Data Governance, EMC CONSULTING
Joe Dos Santos, Director of Enterprise Information Management and Analytics for Americas, EMC CONSULTING

Big Data is here! We are seeing many organizations in different industries explore how they can exploit massive amounts of structured and unstructured data inside and outside the company fire wall to drive a better customer experience, improve marketing segmentations, and even create new business models to drive revenue. With a new model of data consumption driven on rapid analysis of data sources that companies do not control (often in unstructured format), how do we re-think the MDM paradigm? How do we deploy low latency, low bureaucracy Data Governance models to keep pace with the business need for information.

This session will discuss the broad context of leveraging Twitter, Facebook, websites and blogs for analytics and how MDM and governance must change technically and procedurally to adapt to these new models. We will discuss how tools like Hadoop and Map Reduce tools are revolutionizing data management and why MDM becomes increasingly relevant for driving the business value of these investments provided that we re-think our MDM and Data Governance paradigm.

This session will discuss how to approach MDM in a Big Data World:

• Design a platform approach that supports forward business requirements

• The added value of metadata and semantic technology

• Re-thinking the MDM technology paradigm

• The Big Data Governance Organization
