INDUSTRY INNOVATION SESSION 2: COST EFFECTIVE MDM AND GOVERNANCE — 3 WAYS TO REDUCE COST AND TIME TO SUCCESS

Dan Meers, President, Co-Founder and Senior Principal, K2-SOLUTIONS LLC

Contemporary enterprises need to undertake three key steps to get a handle on their high impact master data: (a) identify high value, high risk and highly leveraged master data to apply basic cataloging and change controls with low overhead business governance; (b) determine quality and integrity levels for master data instances to assert “Gold, Silver and Pewter” status, and institute ongoing quality monitoring; and (c) produce ongoing reporting/dashboards to track the level of governance (change control and stewardship) in place.

What can enterprises use to accelerate, simplify and reliably execute these critical steps?

This session will focus on pragmatic ways to reduce time to success and overall costs by showcasing cost effective MDM and governance as deployed at the CFO office of a large financial services organization in support of an organizational rollout and project level support during their major financial transformation. The three steps (topics) to be discussed include:

  • Staging an MDM solution set that can integrate key aspects of metadata, data governance, data quality and data controls
  • Instituting use of Standard Methods and Practices to build capabilities and reliable results with limited resources and time — specifically a consistent, simple set of methods
  • Provisioning a low overhead approach to efficiently engage business stewards and officers in the governance of their data
