CASE STUDY: DATA AS A CORPORATE ASSET – “MANAGING THE MASTER DATA CRUD”

Brad Williams, Data Management Lead, Global IT, CARGILL INC.

Cargill is in the midst of a multi-year global process, technology and data business transformation program called Tartan. One aspect of this is a dedicated focus on all aspects of Master Data – classification, standards, definitions, creation, maintenance, quality and governance. To achieve this we have created a fully integrated solution for the Creation, Reporting, Updating and Deletion (CRUD) of the “Big 3” components of master data – Customer, Vendor and Material. The solution includes form, workflow and data quality monitoring technologies. Our goal is to ensure we have master data established which is able to be leveraged across all systems within our landscape, allows for information to be turned into a competitive advantage and supports data consistency, low maintenance and provides for one version of the truth for all levels of users. Delegates will take away from this session:

  • Concepts for creating a Master Data Object Inventory
  • A model for how master data can be created and maintained with consistency and minimal human intervention
  • An approach for monitoring and managing data quality
